Welcome to the County Records Management Program website. Our job is to assist all County agencies to maintain and ultimately dispose of their records in an efficient manner and in accordance with administrative needs and legal requirements.
One way that we do this is to encourage agencies to transfer their inactive records to less expensive off-site storage, such as the County Records Center, thus recovering valuable office space and file equipment for current business needs. The second method is through the use of Records Control Schedules also called records retention schedules- that specify an official retention period for each category of record within the agency.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Records management is the responsibility of all County employees. By applying the policies and procedures established by the Records Management Program and County offices, County employees can contribute greatly to the efficiency and effectiveness of the record systems found in every County office.
“Records management” is the application of procedures and policies designed to ensure that records are maintained, utilized, and ultimately disposed off in an efficient manner and in accordance with administrative needs and legal requirements. Records Management principles apply to the entire “life cycle” of records, from their creation to their final disposition.
